Descriptor of Research
My laboratory focuses on the infectious diseases pathogenesis in humans. Our primary focus is on bacterial infections caused by enteric gram-negative bacteria. Infections with these bacteria are especially prominent in patients with diabetes. We use mass spectrometry-based metabolomic profiling to characterize the interplay between host and bacteria in colonization and infection and are particularly interested in how these host characteristics affect this. These studies involve biochemical analyses, bacterial culture, mouse infection models, and direct analysis of human specimens.
