My laboratory, recently relocated to Washington University in St. Louis, has historically studied the trafficking of monocyte derived cells and other dendritic cells, with special focus on the migration of these cells out of tissues through lymphatic vessels. Recently, we have begun to intensively focus on lymphatic vessels that are surrounded by adipose tissue and the interactions between lymphatics vessels, macrophages/DCs, and adipocytes. This work has led us to undertake new studies in metabolism and type II diabetes. Our interest in the migration of dendritic cells through lymphatic vessels may also lead us to work collaboratively in the area of type I diabetes.
