We study SARM1, a central regulator of NAD metabolism and the central executioner of pathological axon degeneration. To date, our efforts have focused on the nervous system, where SARM1 is a key driver of axon degeneration including in diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Our studies have demonstrated that SARM1 is an important therapeutic target for multiple neurodegenerative disorders. Excitingly, recent studies suggest that SARM1 is also an important metabolic regulator in models of high-fat diet induced diabetes. We are now extending our studies of the SARM1 mechanism of action to its broader role in metabolic regulation.
